ON THE CUSP OF DISASTER
As an apprentice of Ervin Somogyi, Raymond Kraut discusses "the line" that luthiers must muster up the courage to cross, potentially fail or be "on the cusp of disaster", then learn from to build not just well-crafted guitars but responsive guitars. This is more than building boxes - it's building instruments. This is one of many conversations Raymond and his wife, Ashley, have around the shop. From Raymond, "This video explores a topic that has been on my mind for two decades. Are we building boxes or instruments? Building a responsive guitar requires risk-taking, the potential (if not the imminent) failure, learning from that risk, and building guitars that sound well-crafted, not just look well-crafted."
